February
B'Nai Mitzvah event
It's
time for the second annual CKH B'Nai Mitzvah group Freescale Marathon
water stop extravaganza!!! It was a wonderful experience last
year,
lots of fun and hard work - and a chance to be up and out bright and
early. Here's some preliminary information. If you did not
receive
the details by email, contact Michele Chandler
<mchandlerlmsw@sbcglobal.net> or call 394-0993.
Professional
Services Database
CKH has always
emphasized the
importance of community. At the request
of Rabbi Baker, Misha ben-David is assembling a roster of CKH members
and their
professional skills. We specifically seek those with human services
skills and training; such as physicians, psychotherapists, social
workers, counselors, etc. By having this information at hand, you
will
have some excellent choices from within the CKH community when you seek
professional services. There may also be rare occasions where it would
be helpful to call on you in an emergency situation. If you would
please take a moment to email Chaplain
Misha ben-David <mbd@austin.rr.com>, you would be performing
a mitzvahs that will benefit the entire congregation.
The
Blessings of a Skinned Knee
Jewish
Family Service is offering a class based on the book, "The Blessings of
a Skinned Knee" by Wendy Mogul. This course will utilize the
curriculum developed by the author for parent discussion groups.
Using
a Jewish perspective, the course will address the challenges faced by
parents as they find it increasingly difficult to uphold their own
values within their families which are often at odds with the current
culture. Participants will gain a deeper understanding about how our
culture handicaps and confuses parents who are trying to raise
self-reliant, compassionate, optimistic children. Topics for
discussion include: Guidelines for defining appropriate expectations
for children; Helping children realize their potential without creating
stress; Privileges and responsibilities; Channeling your child's
natural endowments, interests and inclinations, and the Blessings of
food, time, faith and tradition. The course will help parents
learn
how to raise a child to be a good person, and not just raise a child to
feel good.
The class meets on Feb. 7,21, 28 and March 7,
21, 28 from 7:00-9:00 at the Dell Jewish Community Center. Cost
for
the class is $60 for JCAA members and $75 for non-members. For
more
information contact Michele Chandler at 250-1043 or michele.chandler@jcaaonline.org.
We cannot
print

submissions for inclusion into the Congregation newsletter to newsletter@kolhalev.org by
