CKH Religious School Coop Purim and Pesach Projects
The Kol Halev Coop students created Purim Shalot Manot Baskets that were delivered to Jewish soldiers stationed at Ft. Hood by Sergeant First Class Barbara Goldin of the Texas National Guard and the Jewish War Veterans.  The Shalach Manot Purim Baskets were made of paper sacks that were decorated by the students (Grades 1-3) and filled with candy, hamantashen, and a grogger.

The Coop families also donated items for Soldier Care Packages for Pesach.  The Care Packages included toiletries, candy, magazines, socks, and washcloths.  The Care Packages were shipped to three different service members now overseas:
bulletChaplain Mitch Schranz in Camp Victory.  Chaplain Schranz is the Head Chaplain for all of Iraq.
bulletSgt. Patricia Ballao, Air Force Weather in Kalsu.
bulletBramer, Brianna R, HHC, 626th BSB, in Speicher.
Notes from the students were included in the packages wishing the soldiers a safe and Happy Pesach and a quick return home.  The Coop shipped 15 Care Packages that will shared amongst the troops.

Summer Services

Last month, you received a survey (by email) from Lorenzo Sadun (one of our co-presidents) asking for your input about services this summer.  He received 16 responses summarized as follows:
bulletRegular summer services will start at 7:30
bulletWe WILL have family-oriented events earlier, probably monthly.
bulletBecause of Passover, there was no early family service in April, but there is one on May 26th. (We might expand this into a Memorial Day celebratory meal followed by a family service, but the details aren't set, yet.)
We are grateful for the input.  Remember, the Voice of the Heart is YOUR voice.

Sisterhood Returns

Marcia Hoffman has stepped up to re-activate the CKH Sisterhood.  She would like to hear from members that may be interested in helping with this effort. They can call her at 310-7762 or email her at Sungoddess47@hotmail.com with their interest.  Armed with names, phone numbers, and email address she hopes to schedule a brainstorming meeting.

Chesed Committee

The Caring Committee is being reborn as the Chesed (Loving kindness) Committee.  And you are all drafted!

The Chesed Committee exists to ensure that every Kol Halev family is supported in times of need.  Meals, babysitting, transportation, shopping assistance, feeding pets, and mowing lawns are a few of the services the Committee arranges.  We are instituting a Mi Shebeirach list to be sent to Rabbi Baker before services each week.  We are also gearing up to acknowledge various milestones in congregants’ lives, such as the birth of a child, graduation, and marriage.

Your job is to let the committee chair know of opportunities to lend a hand or make a call.  Illness, death, a request to mention a name for the Mi Shebeirach prayer, as well as milestone events should be communicated.  And when the request for help appears in your e-mail in box, please consider volunteering some time to help out.  It’s a small thing that can make a huge impact.

In order to accomplish these goals, a few volunteers are needed for administrative tasks, such as maintaining the Mi Shebeirach list, sending out cards, calling congregants who may need our help, and arranging for that help to be delivered.  These volunteers will form the core of the committee.

Please contact Diane Graves if you are interested in any of these tasks, or would like more information about the committee.  And please tell us of illnesses, losses, or milestone events.  Kol Halev is your extended family.
