Chesed Committee

The Caring Committee is being reborn as the Chesed (Loving kindness) Committee.  And you are all drafted!

The Chesed Committee exists to ensure that every Kol Halev family is supported in times of need.  Meals, babysitting, transportation, shopping assistance, feeding pets, and mowing lawns are a few of the services the Committee arranges.  We are instituting a Mi Shebeirach list to be sent to Rabbi Baker before services each week.  We are also gearing up to acknowledge various milestones in congregants’ lives, such as the birth of a child, graduation, and marriage.

Your job is to let the committee chair know of opportunities to lend a hand or make a call.  Illness, death, a request to mention a name for the Mi Shebeirach prayer, as well as milestone events should be communicated.  And when the request for help appears in your e-mail in box, please consider volunteering some time to help out.  It’s a small thing that can make a huge impact.

In order to accomplish these goals, a few volunteers are needed for administrative tasks, such as maintaining the Mi Shebeirach list, sending out cards, calling congregants who may need our help, and arranging for that help to be delivered.  These volunteers will form the core of the committee.

Please contact Diane Graves if you are interested in any of these tasks, or would like more information about the committee.  And please tell us of illnesses, losses, or milestone events.  Kol Halev is your extended family.

Camp Shalom at the JCAA!
Haven't signed the kids up for camp yet?  Consider sending them to Camp Shalom at the JCAA!  Camp Shalom 2006 is under the direction of Amy O'Desky.  Feel free to email her at amy.odesky@jcaaonline.org with any questions.

K-5:  Camp Shalom is a home-away-from-home for kids in grade school, middle school, and high school.  Trained, experienced counselors lead campers through Arts & Crafts, Music, Israeli Culture, swimming, field games, and more!

Tweens:  Middle school aged children will gather to enjoy daily field trips, and one week per session, join with JCC Tweens from all over Texas to spend a week in Houston, Austin, or San Antonio.  What better way to spend a summer than traversing the hill country, building friendships, and mastering social skills all under the clever guise of having fun!

Hadassah Invites Community to End-of -Year Celebration.
The community is invited to a meeting of the Austin Chapter of Hadassah on Wednesday, May 31st 7 pm at the JCAA.  We will install the newly elected Officers of the Chapter and Aviv (Group) Board of Directors.  The Austin Chapter will present the annual National Leadership Award to Beth Rogalski for her tireless work in the Training Wheels Program over the past several years.  Rachel O'Brien will give an update on the Hadassah College Jerusalem.  Debbie Friedman will present an update on the Hadassah program Curriculum Watch, which should be of particular interest to parents of school age children.

On Sunday, June 11th at 10 am, Chapter Co-Presidents Sandi Balarsky and Cecile Zelinsky have scheduled a transition board meeting for the new Austin Chapter and Groups, Kadima and Aviv with Chapter Adviser Debby Rice acting as facilitator.

Please contact Ruth Deitch at 340-0403 with any questions about either of these scheduled meetings.
