Congregation Kol Halev Newsletter,
September 12, 2006 / 19 Elul 5766

----------------------------------------

This Week at Kol Halev:

Kabbalat Shabbat Service, Friday, September 15th, 7:30 pm, ECP Multi-purpose Room. Join us in the Kol Halev sanctuary for a warm, welcoming Shabbat featuring Amy O'Desky, cantorial intern.

Chevrat Shlosha Devarim (CSD), Saturday, September 16th, 10:00 am, JCAA Community Hall.
Join us as young and old alike help lead this warm and intimate service.  Many of our B'nai Mitzvah students (past & present) lead prayers and chant Torah.  Please contact Reuven Robbins (453-5456 or rrobbins@austin.rr.com) if you would like a part in the service.  A kiddish luncheon follows the service.  If you would like to help sponsor the luncheons, send your tax-deductible contributions to the CKH office (with a note designating if for this purpose).

S'lichot, Saturday, September 16th, 7:30 pm, ECP Multi-purpose Room.
S'lichot (Forgiveness) is a service and study opportunity to get us "tuned into" the rhythm of the High Holidays that are just around the corner.  Meaningful readings, evocative music and discussion help us prepare for the difficult and challenging work ahead.  Join with Rabbi Baker and Cantor Sherwin as we engage in this important stepping stone to t'shuvah (return).

Sisterhood Kick-off Event, Sunday, September 17th, 11:00 am, Café Gelato. Join us for a fun event at Café Gelato (map,in the HEB shopping center on Louis Henna Blvd).  Come schmooze, make new friends and see old ones, and connect with Sisters in Judaism. Bagels, lox, muffins, coffee, and the Best Gelato around! Contact Marcia Hoffman for more information. See http://www.kolhalev.org/Sisterhood page.htm for more details about the renewal of Sisterhood.

Torah Study, Tuesday, September 12th, Noon, Rabbi's office, 3415 Greystone, Suite 307.

...  High Holy Days  ...

Please visit High Holy Days web page for all the details of our observance.

Security and parking arrangements will be different this year.
New information is posted to the High Holy Days web page as we receive it.  It is important for all of us to be aware of the new requirements and procedures in order to avoid delays and experience a better High Holy Days.

Rosh Hashanah Oneg.
As most of you know it takes a great deal of participation and coordination to provide the wonderful high holiday experiences that we have come to know and love and Kol Halev. For those of you who have been asking yourselves "What can I do to help this High Holiday Season?", here's an easy answer... Work with me on the Rosh Hashanah Oneg. It takes very little time and it's sure to be a "sweet experience". I need people to bring delicious food to share - the usual oneg fair - challah, sweets, fruit, veggies, etc. plus apples and honey to bring in the New Year. I could also use some help putting the food out, cutting apples and cleaning up afterwards.

Please send me an e-mail at mchandlerlmsw@sbcglobal.net or call me at 394-0993. Michele Chandler

Remember, it takes a whole congregation to build a memorable high holiday season.

Volunteers Needed for Special Readings.
An easy, enjoyable, and meaningful way to help with the High Holy Days services is to volunteer to read a special reading. We will have many opportunities for volunteers to read passages - you can even pick the service you prefer! PLEASE contact Cyral Miller soon at 371-3014 or cyralm@gmail.com (her new email) or miller-jones@lycos.com (her old, still in use email) so she can fill the roster!
