This Week at Kol Halev:

High Holy Days 5767

Celebrate Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur with Congregation Kol Halev! Rabbis Baker & Scheinkopf will lead a group of study sessions sure to broaden your knowledge of the High Holy Days. Cantor Robbi Sherwin, Cantorial Intern Amy O'Desky, and many musical guests bring a special sound to our services and host the only Contemplative Music session to ease your Yom Kippur Fast. We will complete the High Holy Days with a joyous Ne'ilah service and our BYOS (Bring Your Own Shofar) T'kiah G'dolah. Our amazing Sisterhood has organized a potluck Break-the-Fast.

Please visit our High Holy Days web page for for complete information.  (Including the schedule of services.)

Security and parking arrangements will be different this year.
New information is posted to the High Holy Days web page as we receive it.  It is important for all of us to be aware of the new requirements and procedures in order to avoid delays and experience a better High Holy Days.

Additionally, if you are a member of CKH or have been a guest at our High Holy Days Services in the past, you will receive a separate email in the next 48 hours. If you don't receive that message, contact Cindy <administrator@kolhalev.org>, Marty <newsletter@kolhalev.org>, or Don <info@kolhalev.org>.

Help Set-up and Break-down High Holy Day Space

We need volunteers to set-up and break-down our High Holy Day space. We will meet Sunday afternoon at 1 pm and work to make the "gymnagogue" a sacred space (until about 4 pm). After the Ne'ilah service (and a quick bite to break-the-fast) we will quickly take-down our decorations. If you can help with this important process, please contact our High Holy Day chairs by email hhd@kolhalev.org.

Yom Kippur Break-the-Fast

Our Break-the-Fast will be a potluck (pareve or dairy) at the end of the day on Yom Kippur. We need volunteers to help set up and especially clean up. Our Sisterhood is coordinating this meal. Please contact Marcia Hoffman at 310-7762 or email sungoddess47@hotmail.com if you are able to help.

There will be separate food tables for the children, so please divide your dishes into two serving dishes and bring serving utensils for the dishes you bring. Please plan on feeding 12 adults and 5 children.

The requested division of food dishes to bring to the Break-the-Fast, depending on the starting letter of your last name, is as follows:

A-L Main Dishes (some suggestions: tuna salad, egg salad, hard boiled eggs, pasta dishes, other egg, cheese, or fish dishes)

M-S Side Dishes (some suggestions: kugel, vegetables, salads, bagels and cream cheese and lox, or other breads )

Shoshana Ruth Weintraub Fund For Jewish Youth Programming

The family of Shoshana Weintraub have set up a memorial fund in her memory. The Shoshana Ruth Weintraub Fund For Jewish Youth Programming is a permanent endowment fund which will support teen programming at Kol Halev. The interest each year is dedicated to paying for teen (12-18) programming at Kol-Halev. Additional contributions will add to the annual income from the fund. Contributions can be made by sending a check to the Austin Community Foundation, P.O. Box 5159, Austin, Texas 78763. Write 'Weintraub Jewish Youth' in the memo.

The Weintraub/Huckabee family wishes to thank the Kol-Halev community for their support The family wants to remind people they are still collecting memories of Shoshana at http://www.chelm.org/shoshana.

Bar Mitzvah Project

For his Mitzvah project, Daniel Graves is organizing a CKH team to participate in the Alzheimer's Association Capital of Texas Memory Walk on Saturday, September 30th. (Although the walk is on Saturday, no money will change hands on Shabbat.) The purpose is to raise money for the local Alzheimer's Association. While this is a bar mitzvah project and a b'nai mitzvah activity, non-CKHers are welcome to join and walk with us!

To join the team or make a donation, go to http://capitaloftexas.kintera.org/Austin. Everyone who registers to join Daniel's team (Team CKH) can have his/her own website, even if they are a member of his team, and can collect donations through that website. If anyone else has a family member with AD and wants to walk in his/her honor/memory, that person's picture can be put up on his/her own web page. Everyone who raises at least $25 gets a T-shirt!

On September 30, plan to be at the Austin High School east parking lot around 8:00 a.m. There will be fruit, water, and granola bars for snacks. Registration lasts for approx. 45 min. We'll warm up a bit, then walk in a police-escorted bubble on the street. Closing ceremonies (announcement of winners and door prizes) follow. The walk is usually over around 10:30.

Parents are asked to bring a dish for the potluck dinner while they watch their child(ren) play on the playscape, enjoy a game of soccer, volleyball or croquet. There will be a discussion time for parents as plans are made to organize a new social group in an effort to create a new community for Jewish single parents and their children
