Adult Education -- Jewish Holidays, Monday, December
11th, 7:30 pm, CKH Office.
Congregation Kol Halev's "self-paced" Adult Bar Mitzvah
classes continue with "Jewish Holidays". This
class will examine the holidays from many perspectives:
historical, theological, sociological, and philosophical. We
will examine Rabbinic literature including Talmud to learn what
the Rabbis thought when shaping our traditions. The class
will meet December 4th, 11th, and 18th. For more
information, contact Rabbi Kerry Baker at 419-0945 or <rabbi@kolhalev.org>.
Celebration of Shabbat and Chanukah, Friday, December
15th, 6:30 pm, ECP Multi-purpose Room.
Each family or individual is encouraged to bring a menorah to
light (CKH will offer menorot for anyone who does not have their
own menorah). There will be a creative, values-centered
candle-lighting ceremony which will focus on the “hidden
heroines” of Jewish history. Rabbi Baker will tell a
traditional Chanukah folk-tale and, of course, we will sing many
of the time-honored Chanukah songs you know and love. And
there will be Chanukah gifts for the kids, too! After the
service, we will enjoy a latke dinner catered by Paul and Joni
Constantine.
Torah Meets Tinseltown, Saturday, December 16th, 6:30pm,

December B'nai Mitzvah Chavurah Event
The Pogrunds and Ochoas are organizing the December B’nai
Mitzvah group event. We will wrap gifts for the Travis County
Sheriff’s Office Brown Santa program that provides holiday gifts for
local children in need.
When? Sunday, December 10, 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
Where? Brown Santa Headquarters at 5555
Airport Blvd. – old Haverty’s Furniture Store site (see brownsanta.org
website for map of location).
What? Gift wrapping for needy families.
Each participant is asked to bring at least one new unwrapped gift for a
child. Brown Santa is in particular need of toys for
infants/toddlers ages 0 - 2 and for older boys and girls ages 10 -
16. If you want to bring gift wrap, bows, etc., that is also
helpful, but they have some wrapping materials there.
Ratios: The Brown Santa
program requires one adult per 3 children ages 12 and under and one
adult per 6 children ages 13 and older, so please RSVP indicating how
many children (with their ages) and how many adults will be coming.
It is necessary to let them know how many people are coming, so please
RSVP early and no later than Wednesday, December 6th to Edie
Ochoa at <evitemb@austinisd.org>
or to 443-6342. Thanks so much.
