Congregation Kol Halev Newsletter,

----------------------------------------

This Week at Kol Halev:

Celebration of Shabbat and Chanukah, Friday, December 15th, 6:30 pm, ECP Multi-purpose Room.
Each family or individual is encouraged to bring a menorah to light (CKH will offer menorot for anyone who does not have their own menorah).  There will be a creative, values-centered candle-lighting ceremony which will focus on the “hidden heroines” of Jewish history.  Rabbi Baker will tell a traditional Chanukah folk-tale and, of course, we will sing many of the time-honored Chanukah songs you know and love.  And there will be Chanukah gifts for the kids, too!  After the service, we will enjoy a latke dinner catered by Paul and Joni Constantine.

Torah Meets Tinseltown, Saturday, December 16th, 6:30pm, Rabbi & Lynda Baker's house.
Come to the first meeting of "Torah Meets Tinseltown" at Chez Baker. We will observe Havdalah at 6:30 pm.  Then Rabbi Baker will give a brief introduction to the move.  Our first movie is "Keeping The Faith" (2000) with Ben Stiller, Edward Norton, Jenna Elfman, Anne Bancroft, Eli Wallach, and more.  After the movie Rabbi Baker will lead a discussion. For more information, contact Rabbi Kerry Baker at 419-0945 or <rabbi@kolhalev.org>.

Adult Education -- Jewish Holidays, Monday, December 18th, 7:30 pm, CKH Office.
Congregation Kol Halev's "self-paced" Adult Bar Mitzvah classes continue with "Jewish Holidays".  This class will examine the holidays from many perspectives:  historical, theological, sociological, and philosophical.  We will examine Rabbinic literature including Talmud to learn what the Rabbis thought when shaping our traditions.  The class will meet December 4th, 11th, and 18th.  For more information, contact Rabbi Kerry Baker at 419-0945 or <rabbi@kolhalev.org>.

Kinder Shabbas
.... from Natasha Schultz ....

The Kinder Shabbas program has gotten off to a good start, with 4 - 10 children in attendance.  I will be out of town on Fri., Dec. 22nd and Fri., Dec. 29th.  I would like to find a substitute for our one hour program with the children ages 5-11 who attend the service.  I will leave plans for games and other activities.  I will be at the Chanukah party on Dec. 15th if anyone wants to talk with me about this.  Otherwise, please email me <natashalag@yahoo.com> or please call me at 394-1427.  Thanks, Natasha.
