April 6th, 6:30 pm, Rabbi Kerry & Lynda Baker's home. Shabbat

great Kol Halev tradition, all are welcome to the home of Rabbi
Kerry, Lynda & Emily Baker. Please bring a dish to
share: dairy/pareve and Pesadich
only. Please call (512) 419-0945 or email Rabbi Baker <rabbi@kolhalev.org>
to RSVP.
“Adults-only” Seder, Sunday, April
8th, 7:30 pm, CKH office.
At Cong. Kol Halev we love our family friendly community seder on
the second night of Passover. As great as that experience
is, it isn’t conducive to adult interaction. Rabbi Baker
is offering a wonderful opportunity on the next-to-last night of
Passover for CKHers (and any of their friends they may wish to
invite, Jewish or not) to experience an “Adults-only”
Seder. The idea is to share the ritual seder meal together,
reading and delving into the haggadah, in a way that will
encourage learning and discussion of the eternal themes, values,
and ideas associated with Passover on an adult level. We
will follow this adult learning experience with a short yizkor
(memorial) service at which anyone in attendance may recite
kaddish for their departed relatives, et al. If you are
planning to attend (even if you’re only thinking about
attending) let Rabbi Baker know (call 947-6000 or 419-0945).
This sort of an RSVP is not a pre-requisite, Rabbi Baker is
trying to gauge interest (i.e., if you decide to attend on the
spur of the moment, that’s great!).
Adult
Education, "Modern Jewish Thought", Monday, April
9th, 7:00 pm, CKH Office.
The next installment of Rabbi Baker's Basic Judaism course begins
next Monday evening. He will teach a five-week class on
Modern Jewish Thought, including all the great Jewish thinkers of
the 20th century, including Martin Buber, Franz Rosenzweig, Herman
Cohen, Joseph Soloveitchik, Moedechai Kaplan, and, for the first
time, Harold Kushner. These writers are at the top of the
list of the people who have had the greatest influence on the way
we modern Jews think about ourselves, our world, and our religious
faith. The minimum class size is 5 students, so please
let Rabbi Baker know if you are interested in participating
(mobile phone, 947-6000, or the synagogue office, 419-0945) by
Sunday, April 8th.
Torah Study, Tuesday, April 10th, Noon, CKH Office.

....
Friday & Saturday, April 20th & 21st
Congregation Kol Halev's Shabbaton is an opportunity
for congregants of all ages to share a complete Sabbath experience,
combining learning, meals, fun, and worship. From welcoming Shabbat on
Friday evening through Havdalah the following evening, we will take part
in a variety of active, hands-on learning activities for all ages, as
well as family-friendly Shabbat services. Some activities will allow
congregants of different ages to learn with and from each other, while
others will be tailored to particular age groups, from tots to teens to
adults. This is an opportunity to spend an entire Shabbat immersing
ourselves in Jewish learning and fun, exploring the meaning of Shabbat
and family, and deepening our connection with Judaism and with one
another. For more please contact Sherry Blum via email, <sblum@austincc.edu>.

Jewish Veterans History Project
The Jewish War Veterans of America Post 757 is proud to be participating
in the Austin-Travis County Veterans Exhibit at the Austin History
Center, July, 2007 to January, 2008. Our goal is to create an archive
the military experiences of Jewish veterans who are from or have
connections to Central Texas.
The Post will create its own Archive, and also convey
the material to the Veterans Exhibit. To be included in the Exhibit, we
need to receive your materials before April 20, 2007. An informal
gathering for those wanting to participate in the project is being
planned for April 8.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the Jewish
community to collect information and create a historical archive about
the service of Jewish veterans in the military. Jewish veterans and
active service members are asked to complete a questionnaire, donate
photos, military documents, letters, stories, articles, videos, CDs,
etc., telling about their military experience. Please no flags,
equipment, or uniforms.
We especially would value input from those who have
recently (after 1960) served in the military. Contact Neil Goldman, 512
514 1798 or <ngoldman1@austin.rr.com>
to obtain more information.
Check out BBYO, Join Us at the Lake.
BBYO plans an afternoon at Lake Austin with prospective new members
on Sunday, April 15th. We have chartered a boat from Austin Party
Cruises and would like to invite any 8th grader or high school 9th
through 11th graders to join us. Meet at the Walsh Landing dock on Lake
Austin at 2:00 pm. The dock is located on Lake Austin Blvd. just a
couple of blocks from Hula Huts (you take the Lake Austin exit off Mopac
and go west to the boat dock – it will be on the left and parking
across the street). Should you get lost, call for 791-6333 the day
of the event to get better directions. The boat will leave
promptly at 2:15 pm. We will be returning at 4:15 pm.
Bring/wear your swimsuit if you want to swim, and join us for an
afternoon of fun and meeting new friends. For more details you can
call Leah Fisher @ 258-2773 or Max Davis @ 502-1183. You may also call
advisers, Greg Yamin @ 458-2433 or Dana Winer @ 527-9928.
Reel Significant Others: Loving Jews in the Movies
- An NCJW Program
The community is invited to a National Council of Jewish Women
provocative program on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 pm, in the
Community Hall at the JCC. How are intimate relationships, gay and
straight, represented in Jewish film? What might these
representations have to offer to discussions of Jewish continuity,
Jewish pluralism, and Jewish sexual ethics? This program will be a
mixture of lecture, discussion and film clips! Helene Meyers, PhD will
be our moderator. To rsvp or for more information, contact Jackie
Nirenberg at 419-9340, or <jnirenberg@sbcglobal.net>.

Do
you have an announcement? Good news? Community service
