Adult Education, "Mysticism", Monday, May 7th, 7:00 pm, CKH Office.
The next installment of Rabbi Baker's Basic Judaism course begins next Monday evening. He will teach a five-week class on Jewish Mysticism.  The minimum class size is 5 students, so please let Rabbi Baker know if you are interested in participating (mobile phone, 947-6000, or the synagogue office, 419-0945) by Sunday, May 6th.

Bat Mitzvah of Amy Pogrund, Saturday, May 12th, 5:30 pm, Congregation Beth Israel.
Amy Pogrund, daughter of Rich and Rona Pogrund, will become a Bat Mitzvah on May 12, 2007. The Congregation is invited to attend Amy’s Bat Mitzvah Mincha, Maariv, and Havdalah services to be held at Congregation Beth Israel sanctuary from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12th.

Condolences

Please join Rabbi Baker, Cantor Sherwin, and the whole CKH community as we extend our condolences to the family of Marvin Waskow who died on Saturday in Houston. Marvin was father and grandfather to the Woskow, McDaniel, and Shapiro families. The family is mourning in Houston with his widow and will return to Austin next week. Details about minyanim in Austin will be sent when they are set.

Mazel Tov

Amy Pogrund, daughter of Rich and Rona Pogrund, will become a Bat Mitzvah on May 12, 2007.  The Congregation is invited to attend Friday night Shabbat services, to be held at the JCAA-ECP multipurpose room at 7:00 p.m. on May 11, followed by an Oneg hosted by the Pogrund family, as well as Amy’s Bat Mitzvah Mincha, Maariv, and Havdalah services to be held at Congregation Beth Israel sanctuary from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12.  Amy is a 7th grader at Murchison Middle School who is on the school dance team, plays kickball, and loves young children.  For her Mitzvah Project, Amy volunteered at The Medallion, a Jewish assisted living residence in Houston, to work with the senior citizens who live there.

BBYO is a trans-denominational Jewish youth group open to all Jewish ninth through twelfth graders. The Austin chapter, Rabin BBYO, holds an annual Sweetheart/Beau dance in which we honor our outgoing sweetheart and beau, elect new ones, and have a great time dancing. While this dance has historically been just for BBYO members, this year we're extending a special invitation to CKH youth group members. Any Jewish teen who will be in ninth through twelfth grade next year is invited to join us.
