Upcoming at Kol Halev ....

Secretary's Tisch, Friday, July 6th, 7:00 pm, Becker/Blum Home.
Don Becker writes ........

In lieu of a Rebbe's Tisch or other services this Shabbat, there will be a Secretary's Tisch (dairy-pareve, pot-luck) Friday evening at 7:00pm in our home.  We live in southwest Austin about 15 minutes past where Mopac crosses the river.

Because my directions will include valuable information not available from Map Quest, etc., and because it would be helpful to me to have an idea of whether you are coming and what you might bring, please RSVP (even if it's just a "maybe") by email to <dbecker@austincc.edu>.

We hope to see many of you this Friday,

Don Becker

No Torah Study in July as Rabbi is on vacation.
While Rabbi Baker is taking vacation (during July), he is still available by phone for emergencies and other serious situations.  He will not go to his office on a regular schedule, lead services, or host Rebbe's Tisch.  If you need to reach him, call his cell phone.

Kol Halev Gala

Mark your calendar for the Kol Halev Gala on Saturday, November 17th, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.  Congregation Kol Halev will celebrate its 10th year anniversary and Rabbi Kerry Baker’s 30th anniversary of his ordination, with a special gala called Starry Night -- a celebration event for the families of Congregation Kol Halev and the Austin Jewish community.

Starry Night will be a fabulous gala with food, drink, entertainment, and live and a silent auction. That’s where you come in  ....

First, save the date and come help us have a wonderful celebration and fund-raising event.  Second, help us make this a night to remember by volunteering.  Marcia Hoffman <sungoddess47@hotmail.com> is the general chair of the Gala Committee.  If you have specific skills or interest please email Marcia with that information. This will be a special event if each of us steps up to help.  If you can help with the auctions by organizing or soliciting donations, contact Michele Chandler at <mchandlerlmsw@sbcglobal.net> or 762-3663.

Richard LaVallo Honored

The State Bar of Texas recently honored several Austin individuals and organizations.  Among those honored is Richard LaVallo.  Richard is a member of CKH along with his family: wife, Allison Benesch and their sons, Jacob and Will LaVallo.

Richard received the J. Chrys Dougherty Legal Services Award.  In their press release the State Bar wrote, "LaVallo, a former social worker and now senior attorney with Advocacy, Inc., was selected for his commitment to serving indigent people, as well as children and adults with disabilities.  LaVallo serves as an appointee for children with disabilities and supports the work of Texas CASA, the organization of community volunteers who serve as a "voice in court" for abused and neglected children.  LaVallo has litigated on behalf of people with mental illness, and on making voting accessible to people with disabilities.  He is an advocate for improving the Texas foster care system and for improving opportunities for children with disabilities seeking permanent adoption."

Additionally, a case Richard championed as court-appointed attorney will be featured tonight (Tuesday, July 3rd) on ABC's Primetime.
