KOL HALEV SISTERHOOD to host Yom Kippur Break-the-Fast

On Saturday, September 22nd, CKH Sisterhood will host the Break-Fast after services. As in the past, this will be a potluck affair, and we ask members to bring food according to their last names: A-L Main Dish; M-S Dessert; T-Z Salad. (This is merely a suggestion and if you prefer to bring something that doesn’t fall into your category, that will be appreciated also.) Please plan on serving 15 adults, and please bring an extra dish just for the Kid’s Table, to serve about 10 kids. You will need to provide serving utensils and writing your name on the bottom of your dish will ensure its return to you. A microwave and refrigerator are available for our use.

Please contact Karen Gault <kgault@austin.rr.com>, 249-7949, or Elizabeth Freaney <elizafrea@peoplepc.com>, 255-2609, to let them know what food you will bring. Thank you!

Kol Halev Gala

Mark your calendar for the Kol Halev Gala on Saturday, November 17th, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.  Congregation Kol Halev will celebrate its 10th year anniversary and Rabbi Kerry Baker’s 30th anniversary of his ordination, with a special gala called Starry Night -- a celebration event for the families of Congregation Kol Halev and the Austin Jewish community.

Starry Night will be a fabulous gala with food, drink, entertainment, and live and a silent auction. That’s where you come in  ....

First, save the date and come help us have a wonderful celebration and fund-raising event.  Second, help us make this a night to remember by volunteering.  Marcia Hoffman <sungoddess47@hotmail.com> is the general chair of the Gala Committee.  If you have specific skills or interest please email Marcia with that information. This will be a special event if each of us steps up to help.  If you can help with the auctions by organizing or soliciting donations, contact Michele Chandler at <mchandlerlmsw@sbcglobal.net> or 762-3663.

Te'shuvah for Books
Rabbi Baker writes:

Jewish tradition requires that we share knowledge with our fellow human beings, so according to Jewish law one may not refuse to lend books. I have always followed this mitzvah, and so I have often lent books from my personal library to CKHers. I have been reminded forcefully recently, as I’ve been preparing for the upcoming holidays, that an unusually high number of books that I have loaned have not been returned, making it somewhat more difficult for me to prepare. For this reason, I’m asking CKHers who have borrowed books from me to return them as soon as possible. Please search your shelves to see if there’s a book of mine that you’ve forgotten that you borrowed, or which has simply gotten lost on your shelves.

As long as I’m on this subject, many other books have been borrowed from the CKH library, particularly children’s books, and have not been returned. As many of you know, I often assign books from the congregational library to my students, and it is a problem if they are not returned. Again, let me encourage you to search your libraries at home, and your children’s rooms, and return any CKH books you may find.

After all, isn’t this simply a part of doing te’shuvah (return)?
