This Week at Kol Halev ....

Torah Study, Tuesday, October 16th, Noon, CKH Office.

Kabbalat Shabbat, Friday, October 19th, 7:30 pm, ECP Multi-purpose Room.
Join us for our regular Friday night Shabbat Service.

Chevrat Shlosha Devarim (CSD), Saturday, October 20th, 10:00 am, JCAA Community Hall.
Join us as young and old alike help lead this warm and intimate service. Many of our B'nai Mitzvah students (past & present) lead prayers and chant Torah.  This will be a special day, as we will be joined after services for lunch by a guest speaker from Israel, Josh Even-Chen.  Josh will talk about the Parshah (Lech L'cha), as well as other subjects.  Please contact Reuven Robbins (453-5456 or <rrobbins@austin.rr.com> ) if you would like a part in the service.  A kiddish luncheon follows the service. [If you would like to help sponsor the luncheons, send your tax-deductible contributions to the CKH office (with a note designating if for this purpose).]

Josh Even-Chen is a native of North Carolina.  Josh has called Israel his home ever since coming on aliyah as a child with his family in 1983.  Josh did his army service through a special division in the army called Hesder, combining Yeshiva studies and army service resulting in a five year service rather than the normal three, and continues to serve as a reservist in the tank corps.  After graduating with honors from the Israel Studies Department of Bar-Ilan University, Josh went on to complete the tour-guiding course and become certified by the Ministry of Tourism.  For over a decade Josh has been involved in Jewish education in Israel and abroad, with Israeli and Anglo groups of varied ages and backgrounds.  Josh believes that working as an informal educational tour guide is a challenge and a privilege, and a unique way to be involved in modern Jewish education.  Josh and his wife Chana live in Ma’aleh Adumim with their 4 children, where he enjoys being a tennis instructor in his spare time.

Community Building Training, Sunday, October 21st, 1:30 - 4:30 pm, CKH Office.

Kol Halev Gala

Mark your calendar for the Kol Halev Gala on Saturday, November 17th, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.  Congregation Kol Halev will celebrate its 10th year anniversary and Rabbi Kerry Baker’s 30th anniversary of his ordination, with a special gala called Starry Night -- a celebration event for the families of Congregation Kol Halev and the Austin Jewish community.

Starry Night will be a fabulous gala with food, drink, entertainment, and a silent auction. That’s where you come in  ....

First, buy your tickets now and come help us have a wonderful celebration and fund-raising event.

Second, help us make this a night to remember by volunteering.  Marcia Hoffman <sungoddess47@hotmail.com> is the general chair of the Gala Committee.  If you have specific skills or interest please email Marcia with that information. This will be a special event if each of us steps up to help.  If you can help with the auctions by organizing or soliciting donations, contact Michele Chandler at <mchandlerlmsw@sbcglobal.net> or 762-3663.
